Housegroups overview
The main aim of housegroups is to study the Bible because we believe that it is through God's Word that we grow and are equipped in service of Christ "All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work". ( 2 Timothy 3 v 16-17). In a small group it is possible to learn from each others' perspectives on a passage, to ponder the Bible more slowly and apply it more personally than on Sunday in church.
But that is not our only aim. We also meet to pray for one another, to build friendships (recognising that in the medium-sized church it is possible to have very superficial "Sunday friendships"); to encourage one another and "bear one another's burdens" and to play our part in the overall work of the Gospel at Emmanuel (supporting a particular missionary, cooking supper at the church prayer meeting etc.)
Housegroups are appropriate for anyone who is a convinced Christian and wishes to be part of the Emmanuel church family. The way to join a group is via a Welcome Group.
